How to Take Instagram Pictures with an iPhone by Yourself

Lately I have been much more active on Instagram since I have been traveling and want to document as much as I can. I don’t know why, but I have always felt bad asking people to take pictures for me… so I tried to find the best way to take interesting pictures myself. I figured I would show you how I take pictures (including the one above) with absolutely no help from anyone else.

What I Use

-iPhone

-Timercam App

-Something to rest your iPhone on

So the first thing I do, is I clean off the camera on the iPhone because this can make a HUGE difference on picture quality. I’ll find some sort of interesting background, and set up my phone somewhere. I will then open up the Timercam app, which is an easy to use self timer app. You can set the timer for 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds, as well as use flash and both of the iPhone cameras. It will also make a noise letting you know it has taken the picture.

The two pictures above were both shot on my iPhone ALL BY MYSELF using the app. It can look a bit silly, especially when someone catches you doing it and proceeds to ask if they can take the picture for you (hehe). I have been able to take visually appealing photos by using this app all by myself. I recommend finding a rock or some sort of hard place to set up your phone, or lay a towel or article of clothing down. This is very important if you are at the beach, since you don’t want sand ruining your phone.

For better quality photos, I will try to take pictures in the shade, cloudy days, dawn or dusk, or golden hour for better lighting. However, the pictures I took above were in direct sunlight and they turned out well, so play around and get creative!

It is as easy as that to take instagram pictures using your iPhone all by yourself. If you would like to see how I edit my photos, be sure to leave a comment down below!
