Discovering Split, Croatia: A Coastal Gem of History and Culture
As a HUGE Game of Thrones fan, I was very excited to visit Croatia. My cousin and I booked a trip to visit Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik, and this blog post will be all about Split. We only had one full day here, so we were a bit time restricted.
Where We Stayed
HOSTEL DVOR
This hostel was just outside Old Town, but still in a prime location. My cousin and I both agreed that we were happy this was outside Old Town because it wasn’t as touristy. We stayed in a room that held four people, and we lucked out with our roommates!
What We Did
CATHEDRAL, CRYPT AND BAPTISTRY
It cost us 25 Kuna ($4) to do all three. These are fascinating to see, but I would do your research first because there isn’t a lot of information posted on what you’re seeing. It gets very crowded, so I recommend seeing these early in the morning.
BACVICE BEACH
This beach is really nice because it has a sandy shore and shallow water. We had soo much fun swimming here and then grabbing drinks at Zbirac Bar which is right on the beach. You can rent lounge chairs and lockers, but it can get a bit pricey because it’s a touristy beach.
THE RIVA
This is one of the most popular places for tourists to come visit because of the beautiful views of the water and all the cute cafes and restaurants. I enjoyed walking up and down The Riva taking in the beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea.
SUNSET CRUISE
We knew we wanted to do a sunset cruise while we were here, but we didn’t really do our research beforehand. We ended up scouring up and down the Riva looking at the different excursion booths, but for some reason a lot of the boats weren’t running. We ended up booking through Split Sea Tours and rode a homemade pirate ship! This cost 25 euros and included unlimited drinks!
MARJAN HILL
We decided to hike Marjan Hill with one of our hostel roommates, and we’re so glad we did! This is a short hike that has AMAZING views of Split.
Where We Ate
We didn’t eat at too many places since we were only visiting for a short time, but I will list the restaurants we DID eat at and enjoyed.
Beautiful views of the sea and DELICIOUS food.
Fun beach bar!
Beautiful views of the city and sea, and close to Marjan Hill which we hiked right after eating here!
